Everything Has It’s Beauty

Everything has its beauty, but not everyone sees it.”

                -Confucius

In a society that is dominated by looks, it’s easy to lose ones true identity-our daily doses of media has brain washed us into thinking you have to look a certain way to be beautiful. Society says that being tan, muscular, fair haired, clear skinned, and  trendy defines someone as beautiful, and we have started to scrutinize every little flaw in the human form. It upsets me that we have all become so blinded by the importance of the visual world. Have we really become so obsessed with one another’s physical facades, the clothes we wear, or the way we do our hair? Our obsession has led us to neglect the importance of character, personality, individuality, and originality.  Remember make-up unlike beauty is only skin deep, and soon the temporary satisfaction of being plastic just like everyone else will fade.

What makes someone truly beautiful? Is it the ability to keep a smile on their face even through pressing times, or when someone is genuine and sincere in expressions, gestures, and opinions?   What makes someone perfect? It really can’t be the countless hours devoted to narcissism, and the augmentation of the human form. I believe that in the perfect view of ones imperfections, we can see perfection, we can see through the spray tans and the mountains of hair gel, and see a person’s true beauty. Being able to acknowledge and completely accept one’s imperfections as if they had none makes them-in my eyes as close to perfect as they can be.

We all deserve to considered; beautiful, handsome, or gorgeous-for the soul reason that we are individuals. Our originality and our ability to be eccentric in all aspects of life, to reject the generic media influence make us beautiful, being ourselves makes us beautiful. I’m not saying reject everything society tells you, but be conscious of what you’re buying into; materialistic wants, narcissistic behavior, or the exploitation of imperfection. We should run with crowd, but don’t get lost in it.  As a society I believe we need take emphasis away from our visually ruled world, and direct it towards the acceptance of imperfections, and create a societal comfort with one another’s physical flaws, style of dress, and social status.
